John Francis Foht

February 22, 1952 — October 6, 2023

John Francis Foht, a beloved father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on October 6, 2023, in Scio, Oregon. Born on February 22, 1952, in Sacramento, California, to Virginia Gale and the late Kenneth Foht, John's life was marked by a deep love for his family, a passion for the outdoors, and a knack for fixing things.

John was a graduate of San Juan High School in Citrus Heights, California. He furthered his education at Trend Business College in Salem. John's work ethic and dedication were evident in his long and successful career as a truck driver, both on long and short hauls. Prior to his retirement, his last trucking assignment was with May Trucking.

In his retirement, John was known as the first person to call when something needed fixing, his family would refer to him as the “John of all trades”. His hands, always eager to help, could mend anything from a broken appliance to laying tile. His ability to solve problems and his willingness to lend a hand were traits that endeared him to many. He would best be described as a loyal friend.

John's love for the outdoors was infectious. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, as long as he could cast a line he would fish it. Salt water or fresh water, John enjoyed the tranquility of fishing. He loved clamming for cockles and crabbing in Netarts Bay and Tillamook. His love for these activities was only matched by his love for cooking, a skill he learned from his mother. He was an excellent cook and a lover of sweets. John had a sweet tooth that was legendary among his family and friends. His love for candy, pies, cakes, cookies, and ice cream was well-known, and one could often follow his trail of candy wrappers.

John is survived by his mother, Virginia Foht; his children, Tracy Foht, Jeffrey (Amy) Foht, Keith (Leeann Prosser) Wade, Vanessa Silos, and Samantha (Aaron) Rees; his siblings, Beverly (Mark Peters) McCarrell, Debra (Patrick) Glowacki, Cindy O’Neil, Kimberly (Clay) Iriarte, and Kenneth (Laurie) Foht; his fifteen grandchildren; his five great-grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Kenneth Foht.

John's life was a testament to the power of love, hard work, and the joy of simple pleasures. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will remember him as a loving father, a loyal friend, and a man who could always be counted on. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his spirit will forever be a part of the lives he touched.

John Francis Foht's life was filled with love, laughter, and a passion for the things he cared about. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will be cherished, and his life celebrated, for the love and joy he brought into the world.
