John D. Englin

September 2, 1945 — September 1, 2024

John D. Englin, born on September 2, 1945, in Rockford, Illinois, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2024 in Molalla, Oregon, just one day shy of his 79th birthday. He was the son of the late Richard Englin and Ann Titus and grew up with four siblings, Rick, Paul, Kirk, and Beth.


John proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, earning an honorable discharge for his dedicated service. After 35 years of living in Rockford, John made the decision to move to sunny Florida, where he spent the next 40 years of his life. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 20 years before retiring. Eventually, he and Mary Ellen would settle in Oregon where they enjoyed the retired life together.


In Lakeland, Florida, John met the love of his life, Mary Ellen Della Costa, and they married on October 13, 1990. Throughout his life, John had many passions, including fishing, reading World War II books, watching World War II movies, and enjoying country music.


John was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ann, as well as his brothers, Kirk and Paul.


He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Mary Ellen; his children, Hope, Heather, and Christopher; and his cherished grandchildren, Brittany, Taylor, Christian, Hunter, and Katie Joy. He also leaves behind his brother, Rick, and his sister, Beth, along with many extended family members and dear friends.


A celebration of John's life, including military honors, will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at Weddle Funeral Service located at 1777 N. Third Ave., Stayton, OR 97383. John will be remembered for his service, love of family, and the joy he brought to the lives of those who knew him.
