Joan Beverly Sacchi Walthall was born in North Bend, Oregon at Mercy hospital on August 12, 1934 to young marrieds Doris and Joseph F Sacchi. She died December 02, 2024 of cancer.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Rebecca Walthall in 1957and her husband, Tommy Don in 2013 and her maternal grandparents who raised her, George Hayes and Fannie May Sturdicant Snyder. She felt she was extremely lucky to have such loving and wonderful grandparents. Her mother Doris E. Armstrong, stepfather Harold C Armstrong, father Joseph F Sachhi and step mother Blanche Beauchemin Sacchi. Also preceding her in death were her paternal grandparents, local baptist minister and dairyman, Frank A Sacchi and his wife Mary Elrod Sacchi.
Mother was a lifelong resident of Oregon, living most of her life in Coos Bay. She was a fourth generation Oregonian. The Sturdivant family on her mother's side, settling in Gravel Ford near Myrtle Point in 1873, while her grandfather Snyders family moved to Oregon in 1868 settling in Scotsburg and delivering the mail between Scotsburg and Oakland, Oregon.
She attended Englewood Elementary, Marshfield Junior High and graduated from Marshfield High school in Coos Bay. After graduation she married Texas born high school sweetheart, Tommy Don Walthall on September 12, 1952 in Portland, Oregon. They were married 61 years.
Mother was an avid reader, loved painting landscapes in acrylics, enjoyed flowers, garage sales, playing cards, camping, and all family gatherings. As her children were growing up, her home was a second home to the many neighborhood children. Over the years, she worked for the Hub, Safeway, and K-Mart, all in Coos Bay.
Her plans changed in 2015. Her neighbor bought her Coos Bay home and she moved to Sweet Home to be nearer to her daughters. Luckily, Linda her youngest was available to live with her and they set up house living together. She lived another 8 1/2 years until September almost a year to the day she was again diagnosed with cancer. This time it was widespread and she was given a very short time to live. Her final days were spent with her daughters in a loving and upbeat environment. They all got to express their love before the end. Private internment after cremation will be handled by her children sometime in mom's favorite times of the year - Spring.
Mom is survived by her three daughters, Nancy Kay (Gregory) Wallwork of Vancouver, WA Donna Sue (James) Booth of Vancouver, WA and Linda Ann Alexander of Sweet Home, OR. Grandchildren Sarah Lynn Roberts of Molalla, OR, Nathan S Alexander of Springfield, OR and Ryan E Carr of Vancouver, WA. Sisters Nancy Bernice Roberts of Sun City, AZ, Nancy Jo Lewis, King City, OR, Janice Ann Newell of Vancouver, WA, and brother Charles A Sacchi of Salem, OR. Many nieces and nephews and seven great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Coos Pioneer Society, North Bend, OR or the Sturdivant Park Maintenance Fund, Coquille, OR.
At the deceased prior request, private family services after cremation will be held.
