Stayton- Janice Etzel was born September 23, 1951 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Alvina Waraksa and Gilbert Ross. Janice had two sisters, Karen Wilson, and Corrine Raymond. Her life-long best friend since the age of 5, Victoria Katayama was also like a sister to her. Janice lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for 6 years before moving to Pollock Ines, California, where she lived for the next 15 years. Janice went to El Dorado High School in Placerville, California and graduated in 1969. Janice Etzel had two children, Darcy Walters, and Darren Nunn, whom she raised in Lakeview, Oregon. While living in Lakeview, she began working for the circuit court. In 2001, Janice moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon. Janice worked her way up to Civil Court Operations Supervisor for Klamath County Circuit Court and continued to work for them until her retirement in 2012. After retirement, she moved to Stayton, Oregon where she spent the remainder of her life. On August 29, 2015 Janice and Kevin Etzel were married in Salem, Oregon. Janice Etzel was an upbeat and happy person, despite life’s challenges. She tried to find the humor in everything, and her loud, uninhibited laugh was one of her most endearing traits. Janice loved music and had a beautiful voice. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking treats for her grandkids, Aubrey Nunn, Kadence Nunn, Ethan Walters, and Kyle Walters. She volunteered at the Salem Chapter of AARP and at the Salem Free Clinic. Janice also loved the Oregon Coast and going on RV trips with her husband and their dog, Cody. On January 1, 2021 Janice Etzel passed away at home in Stayton, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents: Alvina and Gilbert. She is survived by her sisters: Karen and Corrine, her children: Darcy and Darren, her grandchildren: Aubrey, Kadence, Ethan, and Kyle, and her husband Kevin. She was a beautiful loving person who touched so many lives. Her family and her many friends will miss her deeply. Memorial Contributions should be made out to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
