James L. Roop, 55, of Stayton, passed away Feb. 10th at his home Stayton. Born March 26, 1954 at Salem. Son of John and Sally Roop. James grew up in Stayton and had worked in the body and fender business for Byron Hatch in Stayton, then having worked as a welder for Salem Equipment Company. He was a singer in a band called Country Goes To Town, they had toured in Ketchikan, Alaska and the Northwest for 20 years. He was also a recording artist and played guitar and bass. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Salem. He enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, gun smithing, music and was writing a novel. He is survived by his companion, Alice East of Stayton; sons, Jason (Patricia) Roop of Beaverton, John Roop of Corvallis, James Roop of Stayton; sister, Elizabeth Beth (Steve) Eck of Aumsville; and step-mother, Sandra Roop of Salem. Celebration of Life and Potluck is scheduled for Sun. Feb. 21st at 1:00 pm at the Roop farm, 11982 Dieckman Lane, Aumsville, OR. Interment will be private. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Assoc. Arrangements entrusted to Weddle Funeral Services Stayton, Oregon.
