James “J.J.” Harold Johnson was born on January 15, 1941 in Salem, Oregon to Albert W. Johnson and Veva I. Clinton. James attended and graduated from South Salem High School. He later attended Chemeketa Community College for forestry, but decided to enter the United States Marine Corps in which he spent 4 years before being honorably discharged. James would later join the Oregon National Guard where he spent 30 years as a full time active duty member and discharged as a Master Sergeant. Throughout his career he received lots of military training and guard awards from his time serving. He met his future wife who happened to be his neighbor, Angie Marie Kidd.  They married and were blessed with four children. James and Angie would later divorce in 1991 but always remained great friends. James would mostly reside for the last 50 years in Turner, Oregon. He enjoyed small town living, where he loved his horses and riding, farming, all sports and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. James passed away on February 19, 2021 at age 80. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amanda Faye Johnson. He is survived by his brother, Clifford Johnson; children Tina Marie Kerrigan, James Albert Johnson and Matthew Daniel Johnson; grandchildren, Dustin Johnson, Katelynn Johnson, Karah Mason, Wyatt Kerrigan, Dylan Kerrigan; great grandchildren, Kaycee Johnson, Carver Johnson, Aubrey, Mason and Kallie Johnson in addition to one great grandson due later this year. A celebration of life will be held later this year with urn placement at Cloverdale Cemetery.
