James "J.D." Daniel Wolfe

James Daniel Wolfe “J.D.” was born on September 13, 1970 in Livingston, New Jersey. He was the oldest of three children born to James and Diana (Hendriksen) Wolfe.  He spent his childhood in New Jersey and eventually moved to Arizona where he graduated high school. On December 6, 1993, he took his place in a long-standing family tradition, beginning his military career in the Air Force as a 3C0X1. His first duty station was located at Scott AFB, IL, where he served his entire active duty enlistment, married Sonney Jo Stell, promoted to Senior Airman, and welcomed his first daughter, Ashley, into the world.Upon separating from active duty he joined the USAFR 940th Wing at MccLellan AFB, CA, and later transferred to the Arizona Air Guard. J.D. remained there until September of 2000 when the 107th ACS was disbanded, and he chose to separate from service and focus on his family life, education, and civilian career. He welcomed his second daughter, Elizabeth, earned his associate’s and bachelor’s in Cisco networking and information technology, his M.Ed. in Educational Leadership for Higher Education, and worked for Enterprise Elementary School District as head of their IT department. In July 2007, J.D. was able to garner his family’s support to return to service and resume the goals he felt he had left unfinished.  He joined the 234th Intelligence Squadron with the California Air National Guard at Beale AFB, CA, and later helped stand up the newly reformed 222nd Intelligent Support Squadron. In these organizations he both promoted from Senior Airman to TSgt. Wolfe, and was allotted the opportunity to serve in several roles such as the Squadron Safety Representative, Rising 6 President, NCOIC and Assistant NCOIC of SCB1. In addition, J.D. served a 6 month activation while embedded in the active duty USAF’s 48th Intelligence squadron supporting countless unmanned drone missions; his proudest moment during this tenure lay in the realization that his youngest daughter, Lizzy, was able to witness her father serve in USAF uniform, for the first time. In 2011, J.D. and his family relocated back to Arizona where he had the privilege of joining and serving the 610 CACS, Davis-Monthan AFB, and it was there he had the honor of promoting to First Sergeant. In his civilian life, he worked for one of largest community college systems in the nation and managed a data center for Maricopa County. In 2015, J.D. accepted a job in Oregon as the IT Director of Chemeketa Community College. He promoted quickly to Chief Information Officer and finally Associate Vice President of College Support Services. He and Sonney bought their sought after “house in the woods,” spent weekends with their children, established an organic garden, went hiking and backpacking and running, and welcomed their teenage nephew, Riley, to live with the family as a member of the “Wolfe Pack.”  He continued his service, joining the 173rd Fighter Wing in Klamath Falls, and he and his wife proudly supported their oldest daughter’s commitment to join and serve the United States Navy. He was incredibly proud of his children and never missed a chance to tell his wife she was the joy of his life. On December 19, 2019 at age 49, J.D. passed away in Clackamas, Oregon. He is survived by his wife, Sonney Jo Wolfe; children, Elizabeth Mariska-Rene Wolfe, Ashley Jo-Anne Wolfe, and Riley Wolfe Hodges; siblings, Tracy Rene Wolfe and Blake Wolfe; and parents, Diana Wolfe and James Wolfe. A Celebration of Life was held in his honor at Chemeketa Community College with a private Military Honors service at Weddle Funeral Service.
