James Edward Miller, age 64, passed away on April 3, 2020 in Turner. James was born on January 17, 1956 in Castro Valley, California, to June Howard and Virginia Mae (Peterson) Miller. He grew up in Tacoma Washington and moved to the Salem area as a teenager to live with his grandmother. He was a graduate of McNary High School. While working at Holiday Inn, James met Julie Gadach. She worked at the front desk, and he was a dishwasher. He was determined to take her on a date, and she finally agreed. The rest was history, and they were married on March 5, 1977 in Salem, Oregon. They spent 43 wonderful years together. James spent the majority of his career working for D & H Flagging. He retired as a Field Supervisor after 25 years of service. He enjoyed his work and helped set up for the Lebanon Strawberry Festival and “Reach The Beach.” James enjoyed fishing, BBQing (baby back ribs were his specialty), working in the yard and tending to his garden. He is described by his family as a kind and loving man, who would help you in a heartbeat. James is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Julie Miller; his children, Jessica (husband, Steve) Ortiz and Virginia (husband, Ray) Rojas; grandchildren, Jared Costalez, Danela and Henry Ortiz and Elliot Morin; and great-grandchildren, Luna and Naomi Costalez. He will be greatly missed.
