James Benton Glenn October 19, 1931 March 8, 2017 Sublimity, Oregon James “Jim” Benton spent his last 2 weeks under hospice care at the home he has shared with his wife since 1964. Jim was born in Greenfield, Missouri to George and Clara Glenn. He played defensive end on the Greenfield High School winning team at the Missouri Ozark Bowl, graduating in 1949. Jim was a SSGT with the Air Force during the Korean conflict from 1951-1955 and was stationed in Germany. On June 12, 1955, he married Lola Jean Whitley in Libby, Montana. They moved to the Stayton area in 1957. He received a BS in Fish and Wildlife Game Management from OSU in 1962. He worked in construction since 1956, most of that time as heavy equipment operator with 701 Operating Engineers. Jim was a member of the Marion County Mounted Posse and enjoyed hunting bird and game like bear, bobcat, cougar, and pheasants. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vic Underwood; and sister, Virginia Wilson. Jim is survived by his wife, Lola; children Teresa (Tim) McGuire and Michael (Ann) Glenn; grandchildren Colleen McGuire and Ian (Wendy) McGuire; and sister Marcella Forayter. A funeral service with Military Honors will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Weddle Funeral Chapel. Private interment to take place at Willamette National Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Serenity Hospice or Union Gospel Mission. Arrangements entrusted to Weddle Funeral Services.
