HILMA G. COLES Oct. 14, 1927 – March 27, 2012 Stayton, Oregon Hilma G. Coles was born in Portland, Oregon on Oct. 14, 1927. The daughter of Vernon and Laila Hallack. Hilma grew up in Taft and graduated from Taft High School class of 1945. She was married to the love of her life, Gene Coles on July 9, 1946 in Salem, Oregon and they spent the next 65 years of their lives together. They lived in Valley Junction before moving to Mehama in 1948 where they were owners of Gene’s Meat Market for 40 yrs. She was a former member of the Mehama Community Church. She enjoyed skiing, hiking and housing ex-change students. She was very talented weaving and making pine needle baskets as well as pen and ink drawings. In addition to her beloved husband, Gene, she is survived by her daughters, Bettie (Dave) Hedrick of Gates, Brenda (Fred) Henn of Willamina; sister, Laverne Widmer of Springfield; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandbaby due in May; 2 nieces and 2 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Frank. Celebration of life will be Sat. April 28th at 11:00 am at the Mehama Community Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church in her memory. Arrangements entrusted to Weddle Funeral Services Stayton, OR.
