Henry J. Nelson, Sr. was born on August 10, 1940 in Rose City, Michigan to Victor and Treva (Washburn) Nelson. As a youth, Henry realized that formal education was not for him. He decided to leave high school and join the United States Air Force. He would serve in the military from September 23, 1957-May 20th of 1964. He would reside in the Willamette Valley since the mid 60’s where he would raise his family. Henry would marry Susan Szczepanek and they were blessed with 6 boys and 1 girl. Although, they would later divorce they would stay friends over the years. Besides the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, Henry loved Oregon for all the opportunities to hunt, fish and trap. He enjoyed the outdoors and passed that love on to his children. Not only did he pass down his hobbies, but he would also pass down many of his trade skills that he had learned as a welder. Henry was generous with sharing his passions and knowledge. He was a devoted father, grandfather and friend to many.  He was generous in his willingness to help his family and always enjoyed  a day on the river- time together was always most important.
