September 14, 1912 – January 27, 2013 Stayton- Hazel was born in Fairview, Oklahoma to Ollie and Etta Goodwin. She was the youngest of ten children. Both of her parents died when Hazel was very young. She lived with her older married sisters and brothers. When she was seventeen, Hazel married Claude Staley and they moved to Oak Creek, Colorado. The couple lived on their homestead until they bought a small ranch. Seven children were born and raised in Colorado. After several years Hazel and three children moved to Oregon where her oldest daughter Loretta and husband had settled. Hazel moved to Stayton on Third Street where she lived until she passed away on January 27th. On September 14, 2012 she was honored with a big celebration on her 100th birthday. She “baby-sat” and cared for many families in Stayton. One of the many things Hazel liked to do was making bread and cinnamon rolls. She loved to share them with everyone they were the best in the country. Hazel liked to work in her yard and garden. She loved her family and was a wonderful mother. Cats, flowers, chocolate were some of her favorite things. Hazel leaves behind four of her seven children: Claudine Staley of Turner, Frank Staley of Aumsville, Ollie(Ida) Staley of Bend, and Loretta (Ralph) Strohmeyer of Stayton Rd. Aumsville…Fourteen Grandchildren, Thirty Great-Grandchildren, and Twenty-two Great-Great-Grandchildren. Services will be held on Friday, February 1 at 1:00 P.M. at Weddle Funeral Chapel in Stayton.
