Harold (Hal) Emil Grimstad July 8, 1922 ~ July 13, 2010 Of Norwegian stock, Harold (Hal) Emil Grimstad was born July 8, 1922 in North Bend, Oregon to Edvard and Hansine Grimstad. In 1938 Hal graduated from Roosevelt High School in Seattle and went to work for the Seattle Telephone Company. Shortly thereafter he joined the U.S. Navy. As a Chief Petty Officer he was trained in radar and electronics at Texas A & M. He served in the Pacific, mostly in the Philippines from 1942-1945. Most of his life, Hal lived in the Phoenix, Arizona area and worked in electronic jobs for Motorola and Engineered Systems Incorporated. After retiring, Hal moved to the Mill City area, staying with his sister Sigrun until he married Betty Plotts in 1993. Hal enjoyed raising orchids and watching TV in his recliner with his dog Cuddles on his lap. Hal passed July 13, 2010 in Gates, Oregon. He is survived by his wife Betty (Plotts) Grimstad of Mill City, sister Sigrun Grimstad of Sublimity, brother Art Grimstad and wife Esther of Fargo, North Dakota, sister Helen Marie Bortvedt of Sequim, Washington, son Mike Grimstad and wife Patti of Phoenix, Arizona, daughter Marianne and husband Dennis Cann of Glendale, California, step-daughter Joanne Anderson and husband Gary of Williams, Oregon, step-daughter Vicki and husband Roy Contreras of Tucson, Arizona, step-son Kenny Wright of Peoria, Arizona, step-sons Garry and Maria Plotts, Darrell and Karen Plotts, and David and Dawn Plotts, all of Mill City and Gordon and Sherry Plotts of Tillamook. Other survivors include numerous grand and step-grandchildren, as well as step and great-grandchildren. Hal was preceded in death by an older brother Edwin. Services will be held at the Mill City First Christian Church on Saturday, July 24th, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mill City First Christian Church new building fund or to Odyssey Hospice.
