Harold (Hal) Orville Demarest was born on May 1, 1950, in Greeley, Colorado to Walter and Dorothea Demarest. He grew up with his 3 siblings, Gordon, Rena and Gerald. He met the love of his life, Kerri, at Panama Reds in Fort Collins, Colorado and were married in Estes Park, Colorado on June 16, 1978. They enjoyed 43 beautiful years together.
In 1979 they moved to Durango, Colorado where he worked as a Car Salesman and loved the financial side of the business. He and Kerri loved the outdoors surrounded by mountains all around them. He was an avid golfer, enjoying the serenity of the open air and cool breeze.
Eventually, they moved to Salem, Oregon and fell in love with poker. He owned “Salem Poker Stars” with Kerri and enjoyed playing with their friends. Hal was very creative and loved making Popsicle-Stick art with all the sticks from the popsicles he and Kerri would eat. There were always sticks laying around the house and even after he passed, we found one in the pocket of his jacket and tucked into the crevices of his recliner. It’s those little things that keep a loved one’s memory alive when something tangible reminds us of how loved he was; something as simple as a popsicle stick.
Hal entered God’s Kingdom on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at the age of 71, at home surrounded by his loving family. He struggled with liver cancer the past year and a half until the Lord called him home. He was a Born-Again Christian and loyal servant to God, first and foremost. He loved sharing the Gospel of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with as many people as possible.
Hal is survived by his wife, Kerri; children, Rob, Robin, Tanya, Jeff, and Dale; Grandchildren, Heather, Nichole, Rebecca, Gabriel, Alexandria, Kane, Tiffani and Colton; Great-Grandchildren, Emelie, Ashlie, Abbie, Katie, Nora, Jack, Sophia, Sienna, and Ever and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Dorothea Demarest and his son, Chris Demarest.
A “Celebration of Life” is scheduled for Hal on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at the Sundial Mobile Home Park Clubhouse in Salem, Oregon. Hal didn’t want a funeral, he wanted us to celebrate our lives together and he told us we could only grieve for 30 days. Always thinking about us. :)
