Harold Gilbert

Harold Gilbert 7-30-1928 to 3-7, 2010 Aumsville, Oregon Harold Gilbert passed away 3-7-2010 after an extended illness. He was born in Salem, Oregon to Ed and Hilda Gilbert. He had one sister, Dorothy. The family lived on a dairy farm in Shaw, then moved to their farm near Aumsville. He  met his wife, Stella Willard, while she was picking beans for the family. They were high school Sweethearts and married in 1948. They were married nearly 60 years before she preceded him in 2008. Harold had a rich and full life. He was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church, farmed, served on the Board of Sublimity Ins. Co. 35 years and Stayton Canning Company 15 years. He hunted, fished, loved to travel with Stella and loved sports. He played semi-pro baseball. He also enjoyed his yard and garden, particularly growing Tomatoes, Marigolds and  Fuchsias. He loved being with family and friends. He was a strong, kind, generous, hard-working, good-humored, loving man. We will miss him greatly and always hold him close in our hearts. He is survived by his, four children: Sharon Gilbert, Larry and Charlotte Gilbert, Cathi Jones and Patti Vogel. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Leroy Dalke, Sister-in law Pat Rodolf and Sister-in-law Doris and Weldon Powell, 5 grandchildren 4 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Special Thanks to Odyssey Hospice and to Marilyn and Dennis Vorderstrasse. Services will be held 3-13-2010 at 11:30 am at Weddle Funeral Chapel.
