Goldie Emmett Marcott Jr.

Goldie Emmett Marcott Jr was born January 5, 1945, in Lakeland, Florida, to Goldie Emmett and Madilyn (Gooch) Marcott Sr. When he was just 2 weeks old the family relocated to Oklahoma where they lived for two years before setting out for Oregon in 1947. Goldie Sr bough a farm between Sublimity and Silverton where he raised his family and eventually would pass on the farm to his son. Goldie attended school in Silverton and graduated from Silverton High School. He enlisted in the Air Force and became a C-141 mechanic and crew chief, serving during the Viet Nam war. While still enlisted and based out of Tacoma, Washington, Goldie met Cheryl Phillips and the two fell in love and were married on Valentine’s Day in 1971. After being honorably discharged from service, Goldie and Cheryl moved back to the family farm where they would take over operation and raise three sons together. One of Goldie’s passions was flying and after earning his pilot’s license, he made an airstrip on the farm so he could fly from home. Together with his dad and brother Max, he built his own plane, and RV-4. Goldie also owned another plane and he loved to fly over Silver Falls and all over the beautiful are where he lived. His love of flying also drew him to attend numerous air shows over the years with his family. The boys were young, they would run around the air shows on their own and it seemed like every time Goldie turned around, the boys were in the back of someone’s plane, having talked them into giving them a ride. Living on the farm for basically all his life, there were few people in the Sublimity area that Goldie didn’t know. He was a prominent and active member of the community, serving on the school board and as a volunteer on the Sublimity Fire Department. He also a member of the Oregon Seed Growers Association. Although he could be quiet if he came across someone he didn’t already know, Goldie was friendly and social and enjoyed the people he knew and the social activities he was involved in. Just a month after celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary, Cheryl passed away, leaving behind a deeply grieved family. A few years later, Goldie would find love again and married Diana Groat on May 26, 2001. Just shy of their 20th wedding anniversary, Goldie passed away on May 19, 2021, at the age of 76. Goldie will be remembered fondly for being ornery and always playing jokes on those he loved. He could be quite stubborn and bull headed, but that also meant he could persevere through any difficulty that came his way. He was always deeply committed to his family, his farm, and serving his country and community. Family meant everything to Goldie and he loved his wife and children and adored his grandkids and great grandkids. He enjoyed attending the kids’ and grandkids’ activities and cheering them on from the sidelines. Holidays, birthdays, and any other occasion they could celebrate, they always did together as a family, creating cherished memories that are held especially dear by loved ones he leaves behind. Goldie was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Cheryl Marcott. He is survived by his wife Diana Marcott; sons Edwin (Kimberly) Marcott, Shane (Vanessa) Marcott, Cory (Tana McCurry) Marcott; stepdaughter Tonya Smith; siblings Judy (Jerry) Cave and Max Marcott; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and many other extended family and dear friends. The family will hold a private celebration of his life.
