Glen F. Burks passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024 in Salem, Oregon, after a valiant battle with bone cancer. Born on March 9, 1940 in Versailles, Missouri to Clara Della Webb and Delbert Brent Burks, Glen lived a life rich with purpose, dedication, and love.
After completing his education, Glen joined the Navy, where he served with honor and distinction. Following his military service Glen met the love of his life, Mary, and the two of them were married on April 4, 1963. Glen embarked on a career as an E.B. welder at Wah Chang, where he worked diligently until his retirement at the age of 57. His work ethic and commitment were admired by all who knew him.
In 1967, Glen moved to Jefferson, Oregon, where he resided until 1981 before relocating to Scio, Oregon, where he would spend the rest of his life. It was in Scio that Glen and his beloved wife Mary found joy and tranquility on their 40-acre ranch. Glen was a true outdoorsman, finding solace and happiness in ranching, fishing on the Powder River, gardening, and hunting. His love for the land and nature was evident in all that he did.
Glen's greatest source of pride and joy was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Mary A. Hurinenko Burks; his children, Ronald L. Burks and Glenda M. Gheen and her husband Jeff; his grandchildren, Kristin M. Gheen, Rachel A. Buono, and Nicole A. Burks; and his great-grandchildren, Jacob, Kaleb, Hazel, Emerald, and Vin. He is also survived by his siblings Jack Burks, Kent Burks, Barbara Burks, and Bonnie Coronado. Glen was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Katherine Schutt.
Glen's legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. His love, wisdom, and kindness touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Glen will be remembered as a man of strength, integrity, and unwavering love for his family and the land he cherished.
"When we lose someone we love, we must learn not to live without them, but to live with the love they left behind."
