Gerald Ray Van Hyning was born on March 2, 1953 in McMinnville, Oregon to John and Marilyn (Mulkey) Van Hyning. After graduating from Sheridan high school, Gerry started working with his dad for the family logging business. Most recently Gerry retired from Knife River after working there for 20 years. Living in Salem, and while at church on day he struck up a conversation with a nice lady named Carol who happened to be sitting next to him. Their conversation led to them dating and then on September 23rd, 2017 the two would marry in Salem, Oregon. Both very strong in their faith, Gerry and his wife enjoyed many camping trips to Eastern Oregon where they could be surrounded by the beauty of God’s Creation. Gerry was a gifted artist and he dabbled in many forms of art. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and gardening. His special joy though was serving in the RORS ministry at Salem Alliance Church where he would provide firewood to those in need. Gerry love spending time with his family, reading God’s Word and singing. On August 23, 2019, Gerald Passed away in Lebanon, Oregon surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marilyn; wife, Gail Van Hyning, and his sister, Arleen. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol; Children Jennifer (Chris) Collins, Jeremy (Callie) Van Hyning, and Leslie Shay; grandchildren Cason Collins, Jori Collins, Sarah Van Hyning, Hailey Van Hyning, McKenzie Eide, Alex Shay, Kielee Burchhardt, and MacKenzie Shay; 4 great grandchildren; and siblings, Diane, Jeanette and Janine.
