Gary Ronald Meyer was born November 30, 1965, in Salem, Oregon, to Ronald John and Violet Rae (Kennedy) Meyer. He grew up on the family farm in Turner with two brothers and three sisters. Gary attended grade school in Turner and then went to Cascade High School. A man of many talents, Gary worked several jobs over the years. He worked at the plywood mill, for M and M Towing, and as a carpenter and handyman repairing houses for people he knew. Gary enjoyed fishing and hiking and being outdoors in nature and his home in the Willamette Valley provided endless opportunities for exploring the best that nature has to offer. He loved to take road trips to the coast on his beloved 1800 Shadow VT with his significant other Sheila by his side. They would often stop to explore whenever something interesting caught their eye. Gary was into RC cars and would often take them on his coast trips and play with them wherever they ended up. All things unique and old interested Gary and he was a collector of many things, enjoying time spent in antique stores, flea markets, and at auctions, always on the hunt for some new and interesting treasure. He was a patriot and loved his county and the military and was proud of those he knew that served this great country. Most of the time Gary was a happy guy who loved to tell corny jokes and laugh with the family and friends he loved spending time with. He would often text or message family with a new joke or funny picture, putting a smile on their faces even when they were not together. Gary was an open book and shared stories often with those he loved. He was a big strong man with a soft heart and gentle spirit and was endearingly sentimental. Although Gary never had children of his own, Sheila’s children and grandchildren were like his own, and he had many nieces and nephews that he adored. On February 13, 2021, Gary suddenly passed-away at his home in Lebanon at the age of 55. He was preceded in death by his parents Ronald and Violet, and his siblings Sherry Martin and Raymond “Scott” Meyer. Gary will be deeply missed by those he leaves behind including his significant other of many years, Sheila, and her family; siblings Dennis Meyer, Rhonda Harstad, and Angela Becktold; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members. The family will hold a celebration of his life at a later date.
