Gail Lucas

January 13, 1959 — November 27, 2023

Gail Maria Lucas, born on January 13, 1959, to Velma Oelshlager and Marvel Hoiseth. Gail embraced life with a passion for communication, family, and adventure.

She departed on November 27, 2023, in Jefferson, Oregon, leaving behind a legacy woven with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Gail pursued her passion for Sign Language Interpreting at Chemeketa Community College and Western Oregon University, earning both an Associate of Arts Degree and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in the field. She was Nationally certified by RID in ASL and Signed English.

Her career spanned over 30 years, where her hands and heart bridged communication gaps, touching countless lives. Gail's dedication shone brightly at Chemeketa Community College, ZVRS, Purple VRS, and within various community settings, on cruises, as a volunteer at Deaf-Blind Camp.

On September 13, 1996 at sunset on the Oregon coast, Gail and Leeann pledged to spend their lives together after being close friends for three years.

When they could legally wed they made plans for the date Gail picked which was 12/13/14. Unfortunately life got in the way and it almost wasn’t to be. Leeann knew how important it was to Gail and swung into gear. With only two weeks to go, the wedding at a 1800’s Bed and Breakfast, with cake, catering, flowers, and all was in place for an Old West themed wedding.

December 13, 2014, Gail joined her life with Leeann K Lucas in a simple but beautiful ceremony in Silverton, Oregon. Their union was a testament to love's enduring strength. Gail's devotion to her family and friends was profound.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Gail was a woman of diverse interests. Her creativity flourished through quilting, sewing, stained glass, and machine embroidery, illuminating her world with intricate designs and artistry. Travel beckoned to her adventurous spirit, and she delighted in exploring the marvels of Italy, Hawaii, and the high seas on cruises. Gail found solace in nature's wonders, nurturing a deep love for farming, genealogy, and geology. Her affection for animals, especially tigers and horses, echoed her compassionate soul.

Yet, amidst her myriad passions, Gail's heart truly bloomed when surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Her greatest joy was their company, cherishing every moment shared and weaving unforgettable memories.

She leaves behind her wife, Leeann K. Lucas; children Tami, Toby, Eric, and Kari, and a constellation of grandchildren—Kaitlynn, Jessie, Charlotte, Regan, Colton, Eli, and Colby—who brought immeasurable joy into her life. Gail is reunited in eternity with her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and her older brother Rick, who preceded her in death.

In her honor, donations can be made to her funeral expenses at Weddle Funeral Home in Stayton, Oregon, or to the Wildcat Sanctuary at wildcatsancturary.org, perpetuating her legacy of compassion and love for animals.

Her absence leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Gail's laughter, kindness, and unwavering love will echo eternally in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with her.

An ASL interpreted celebration of life will be held at Weddle Funeral Service 1777 N. Third Ave. Stayton, Oregon 97383 on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 12pm with a dessert reception to follow. Viewing will begin at 11am and be offered after the services during the reception.
