Frank Xavier Staponski

June 7, 1913 — July 15, 2010

FRANK XAVIER STAPONSKI June 7, 1913 ~ July 15, 2010 Frank Staponski formally of Independence, MO passed away on July 15 in Sublimity, OR. He was a man of strong convictions, subtle humor, mechanical skills, and common sense. Frank was born on the family farm two miles south of Pierce City, MO in the Pulaskifield area to Frank Staponski and Julia (Younker)Staponski. From a young age he helped with the farm chores. He worked hard and played hard. In his free time he loved a bare-handed game of baseball. His brother, Jack, Lured him away from the farm for a job at the General Motors (Leeds) plant. While working there he met the love-of-his-life, Leila Stoll. They married on June 2, 1945. (She preceded him in death). Frank took an active (and brave) part in the original union organizing of the assembly plant. Even after retiring from GM (after forty years) he remained a staunch supporter of the UAW (Local 93). He served on the retiree executive board for many years. Frank was a simple man yet one of many talents. He could build or repair almost anything. From his twenties through his eighties, he enjoyed playing golf and always looked forward to “shooting his age.” He loved sharing the produce from his prolific garden with family and friends. His adventures included traveling through all fifty states, He never tired of exploring and trying new things. Frank is survived by his daughter, Carol (Terry) Tegg; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Stoll and Maurine Stoll; and an extended family including many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his ten sibling. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to The Church of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 10017 E. 36th Terrace, Independence, MO or the charity of your choice. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:18 Private grave side services will be held. Weddle Funeral Services in Stayton, OR and Walker-Nadler-Fuller Funeral Home in Lexington, MO served the family.
