Eugenia Alexandria Ames better known as Jeanie was born on November 4, 1939 in West Rutland, Vermont to Eugene and Helen (Sankowski) Johnson. She attended school in Vermont and eventually met Wayland Porter. They would marry and had 5 children together. Wayland was brought to Oregon to work on the Green Peter Dam and eventually decided to bring Jeanie and the kids to follow in 1963. They made their home in Brownsville, Oregon where Jeanie became a real estate agent. She also enjoyed foraging in the mountains for ferns and mushrooms. Often she would not only cook the items she found but also would sell them. She would also teach her children the art of hunting mushrooms. Jeanie also had a passion for caregiving, she worked for Senior and Disabled Services, helping them. She would get items for them at the store with her own money, wanting to ensure they had everything they needed. She and Wayland would eventually divorce, and she would marry Eldred L. Ames. Together, they would have two more children. Jeanie also loved gold panning, hunting and even sewed in her younger years. Jeanie and Eldred would move to Sweet Home in 1965 and she continued to live there the rest of her life. Jeanie was known for always having a pink lipstick on hand and loved to wear hats wherever she went and always run around town with curlers in her hair covered with a bandana. Jeanie was strong willed and loved to be independent which she was able to do up until the last 5 years when her health no longer allowed for it. Jeanie passed away on April 1, 2020 at age 80 in Lebanon, Oregon. She was predeceased by her husband, Eldred L. Ames. She leaves behind her children, Lorie Porter, Debbie Porter, Wayland Porter, Bonnie Hatch, Lisa Wilson, Calvin Ames and Carlene Ames in addition to her brothers, Joe Johnson, Jim Johnson, John Johnson; 25 grandchildren in addition to several great grandchildren.
