Eugene Franklin Schulz

b. August 28, 1938

Eugene Franklin Schulz was born on August 28th 1938 to Paul and Sofie Schulz in Caldwell, Texas.  As a teenager, Eugene met Rubie Ondrasek. As Rubie liked to put it, she “ran off with a guy on a motorcycle”. They fell in love and on November 28th 1959 Eugene and Rubie married. At the time of his passing they celebrated 58 years of matrimony. With a passion to serve his country, Eugene enlisted into the United States Army on February 21, 1962.  This started a lifetime of service that continued throughout his lifetime.  In the Army he served as a crew chief aboard Huey’s.  His military service took him and his family to many locations around the United States. In addition to his stateside travels he also served three oversea tours in Vietnam where he received an Air Medal and Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.  During his service time, Eugene and Rubie welcomed their son, Eugene Schulz Jr.  Being a father was a true blessing in Eugene’s life. After 20 years of faithful service, Eugene retired from the military on October 31, 1981. He jointed the United States Postal Service and worked there until his retirement in the fall of 2009.  Eugene enjoyed retirement, he and Rubie would spend their leisure time traveling back to locations where they lived throughout their lives to visit and see the homes in which they lived.  In addition to the places they lived, Yellowstone was a favorite place as well to visit. Before passing away peacefully at home on March 12, 2018, Eugene was recognized and honored by Willamette Valley Hospice for his many years of service to his Country. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Sofia, his brothers “Paul” and Edward and his infant brother and sister. Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Rubie and his son, Eugene Schulz, Jr. Eugene will be inurned at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon following the rendering of Honors on March 19, 2018 at 12:30pm.
