Etta Marie Schaefer, was born at Clarksville, Arkansas on the 25th of July. 1911. She passed away on Thursday, Nov. 26th at her home in Stayton. She was 98. The daughter of Robert and Etta Rushing. Etta graduated from high school in Clarksville, then moving to Texas before entering the Army during WWII. She served as a cook having earned the rank of Sergeant. She met Loyd E. Schaefer and they were married in Cheyenne, Wyoming. After the war they moved to Scio in 1946 and to Stayton in 1973. Loyd preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 1989. Etta was a member of the Stayton Christian Church and was active in Senior Citizens and worked with children and the Good News Club. She volunteered at the Stayton museum and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary having sold poppies. She enjoyed walking, sewing (having sewed for the W.P.A. during the depression), embroidery and cooking & attending Church potlucks. She is survived by her daughters, Karen Schaefer and Julia Strausser both of Stayton; grandsons, Charlie and Abe Strausser. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Reed and Robert Rushing and sister, Theressa. Memorial service will be held Wed. Dec. 2nd at 1:00 pm at Weddle Funeral Services in Stayton. Interment will be private at Wisner Cemetery in Scio. Arrangements entrusted to Weddle Funeral Services Stayton, Oregon.
