Esperanza was born on August 12,1956 in El Campo, Texas to Santiago and Cresencia Amaya. She was one of 9 siblings, and her love of children most likely began with her siblings. As Esperanza grew up she would meet and fall in love with Jose M. Calvillo II on February 26, 1972 in Independence, Oregon. They would start a family and were blessed with four children. She would also attend Chemeketa Community College for early childhood education. From this degree, Esperanza would have a career as a preschool teacher. She would work at head start for over 20 years, retiring 10 years ago. Esperanza was also a member of the Elks Lodge and St. Patrick’s Church in Independence. Besides being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and hard worker- she loved to garden and go camping.
