Elmer “Vern” Lavern Burgett was born on November 29, 1945 in Bassett, Nebraska to Elmer Burgett and Dorothy Spencer. Vern graduated from Harrisburg, Oregon high school. On Dec 29th 1965, while the country was heavily involved in the Vietnam War, Vern joined the Army and served until he was Honorably discharged. Vern became a welder and worked in the Naval shipyard. After he was injured he worked with many self-employed businesses. Vern’s true passion was the arts; he participated in plays and loved performing music. Over the years of performing at retirement homes he brought many smiles to the faces of the residents. Besides his love for the arts, Vern collected marbles, was a member of the American Legion, and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He attended church throughout his whole life and was currently attending First Christian Church is Lebanon, Or. Vern married Nancy Holmgren on January 11, 2013. He lived in Jefferson, Oregon from 1988 until his passing on June 2nd 2018. Vern was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and daughters Debbie and Rebeccah. He is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Lisa Lafferty, grandchildren Kayla Green and Erin Gerig, and a great grandson Ezryn Nissen, siblings Steve Burgett, Fred Burgett, Deborah Atkinson and Sandy Ward. A service will be held on July 6, 2018 at 11:00 AM at First Christian Church 170 E Grant St, Lebanon, OR 97355. Arrangements entrusted to Weddle Funeral Service.
