Elinor Fay Cates June 1, 1931 – April 29, 2011 Sublimity, Oregon Elinor Fay Cates was born on June 1, 1931 to William and Bernese Wakeley in Aplington, Iowa. She attended the Norfolk, Nebraska public schools and went on to the University of Nebraska where she obtained an Associate degree. She married Wayne Cates in 1951 and they had 3 children. She received a degree from the University of California at LA and taught in the Azusa, California Unified School district for 17 years. The family moved to a farm near Scio, OR in 1978. Elinor founded and was coordinator of the Scio-Crabtree Emergency Food Bank and Gleaners for many years. The family moved to Sublimity in 1993 and Elinor was very active in volunteer work being named Sublimity Woman of the Year in 1997. In later years the family moved to the desert area of Indio, CA. there Elinor worked with farm migrant children. Recently they returned to Sublimity to be near family. She is survived by her husband, Wayne; sons, Archie of Santa Rosa, CA and Jon of Sublimity as well as 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane. A private graveside service will be held at Providence Cemetery in Scio. Arrangements entrusted to Weddle Funeral Services Stayton, OR.
