Edward James "Bud" Miller passed away on February 28, 2019, at age 79, at Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House in Albany, Oregon, due to complications from lung surgery Dec. 4, 2018. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years (Aug. 1, 1959), Carolyn Gilmore Miller; his son Aaron Miller of Vernonia, Oregon; his daughter Cara Miller of Bend, Oregon; granddaughter Souvanny Miller & fiancé Nic Sanchez of Ashland, Oregon; grandson Jackson Miller & wife Hayley of Eagle Point, Oregon, granddaughter Marina Eitel & grandson Bentley Eitel of Bend, Oregon; sister Delores Miller Myers of Salem. Bud was preceded in death by two infant brothers & his parents, Ed & Stella Canoy Miller. Bud was born in the "old" Lebanon Hospital on Second Street on July 26, 1939. He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1957, playing football, basketball & baseball. He attended Oregon State & belonged to Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He worked for his parents in their grocery store, Pine Lodge Grocery, until he was drafted into the Army in Jan. 1963, & was honorably discharged in Jan. of 1965 with the rank of Sgt. He was joined by Carolyn at Ft. Gordon, Georgia (Augusta, Georgia) while he went to Signal School then they were sent to Ft. Bragg, N.C. (Fayetteville, N.C.) for his last 18 months of service. On returning to Lebanon Jan 1965 he worked for Timber Valley Dairy, then in 1967 went to work for Western Auto, leaving the company as manager of the Hood River Store to return to groceries working for Prairie Market in Hood River, where he soon became manager. Returning to Lebanon in 1976 he was briefly partners in Pizza King in Lebanon, then again, returned to groceries, working for Mark N Pak & being manager there til 1988. He then went to work for Roth's IGA in Lebanon, had a Vortman cookie route & later worked for Advantage Sales & Marketing doing resets in stores all over the Willamette Valley until retirement. Bud loved the many years he shared camping, fishing & snowmobiling with his family & many friends at Paulina Lake & Wickiup Reservoir. One of his children's favorite memories was snowmobiling from ages 2 & 8 at Paulina Lake over each New Years, first in a camper & then graduating to the Paulina Lake Cabins, with friends from Lebanon & Sweet Home. In retirement he found the joy of catching big salmon in August on the Columbia River out of Warrenton, Oregon. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the care Bud received thru Samaritan Evergreen Hospice & for all the daily visits during the many days in the hospital from his very special PCP Dr. Steven Athay of Corvallis. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to your favorite charity, or Samaritan Evergreen Hospice, ABC House, Safe Haven Humane Society, all in Albany, Oregon.
