Dorothy Clarice Davidson Feb. 27, 1918- Oct. 2, 2010 Marion, Oregon Dorothy Clarice Davidson, born to Leon Alti and Herbert Maurice Greene in Maupin, Oregon at mid-night on February 27, 1918, grew up the sixth of ten children. The family tomboy, she loved the outdoors. She graduated from Maupin High School. While waiting tables in Rhododendron to save for business college, Dorothy and Floyd Davidson met. But WWII separated them. She did office work for Pittsburgh Paint. Reunited after the war, Floyd and Dorothy married at the Vancouver Barracks on March 28, 1945. The couple lived in Portland where their daughter Lynne Davidson was born. Floyd missed farm life, and they moved to Marion in 1949. Their sons Brian and Kevin were born when the family lived in Marion. Dorothy kept the books for Floyd’s successful road building company while raising her family and being a skilled homemaker. Dorothy’s home-baked rolls, her exceptional pies, her cinnamon twists, and cookies for every holiday delighted her family. Her extraordinary, extensive vegetable gardens yielded beautiful tomatoes, beans, pumpkins and more. Dorothy canned pears and made applesauce from the apples she grew. Her jams and jellies tasted scrumptious. Roses, sunflowers, and hibiscus thrived in her impressive perennial garden. Year after year, she decorated her tidy, welcoming home with special décor for each holiday including the paper turkeys, rabbits and other ornaments made by her children. A loyal Blazer fan, Dorothy played basketball in high school and loved watching it. She enjoyed attending Relay for Life events, family reunions and celebrations. She and Floyd maintained and served for decades on the board of the Marion Friends Cemetery. Dorothy received loving care from Visiting Angels caregivers, Hospice nurses and family. She passed away at 92. Surviving family members, who all benefitted from her devotion and kindness, include her children: Lynne, Brian and Kevin Davidson and his wife, Lois Rosen of Salem, Dorothy’s sisters, Alice Anderson of Keizer, Mae McCorkle of Maupin, Elnora Crytzer of Tygh Valley, and her grandchildren, David Rosen and Slavey Tolev. Funeral services will be Sat. Oct. 9th at Weddle Funeral Chapel in Stayton followed by interment at Marion Friends Cemetery with a gathering at Dorothy’s home. Donations in honor of Dorothy may be made to the Marion Friends Cemetery Association, The American Cancer Society, Odyssey Hospice of Salem, or any charity.
