Dennis Robert Coon was born on November 9, 1952, in Eugene, Oregon to Carol Elaine (James) and Leo Stanford Coon. Dennis grew up in Klamath Falls, Oregon where he would attend school and graduate from Klamath Union High School. He then went on to pursue a higher education at Linn Benton Community College for two years and later Grand Canyon Community College in Phoenix, Arizona. After college, Dennis returned to Klamath Falls, Oregon. For several years, Dennis would work and discover fast pitch softball that he loved as much as baseball. He later moved to Vancouver, Washington where he lived until 2012 when he retired and moved to Salem, Oregon. Dennis was an outstanding athlete his entire life. He would participate and volunteer by coaching and officiating as often as he could. Due to his overwhelming amount of involvement in sports, Dennis was a member of the Linn Benton Baseball Hall of Fame and received many awards and trophies from Little League, Babe Ruth, American Legion, and college baseball. Although, he never had children of his own, Dennis was a devoted uncle who would attend his nieces and nephew’s sports events as time allowed. He would give them advice and regaled them with his great stories. His friends have been lifelong. Dennis passed away on November 10, 2021, at age 69 in Salem, Oregon. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021, at 2pm in Weddle Funeral Service, Stayton. Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Leo Coon in August of 1986 and a niece, Dana Graham. He is survived by his mother, Carol Coon; sisters, Karen Graham of Tumwater, Washington; Julie (Dan) Williamson of Salem, Oregon; brother, Kim Coon of Beaverton, Oregon; nephews, Jeff (Tina) Graham, Brett Graham; nieces, Hidi (Ryan) Hari, Whitney (Dan) Oesterblad, Kimberly Coon in addition to many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Dennis loved his family and friends; they were number one in his life. A gruff sounding man with a tender, loving heart of pure gold.
