Dennis Gary Vorderstrasse

March 28, 1943 — October 2, 2021

CANBY - Dennis Gary Vorderstrasse was born in Lebanon, OR on Mar. 28, 1943, the second of four boys born to Gary and Helen Vorderstrasse. He peacefully passed away in Canby, OR with his family by his side on Oct. 2, 2021, at the age of 78.  After graduating high school, Dennis enlisted in the Army in 1963 on the buddy program and served four years. Two of those years were served in Germany as a demolition specialist. Because of his loyalty, he was an outstanding soldier.  Dennis married Marilyn Guenther on July 6, 1972 in Albany, OR. From their union, they had two sons, Jeremy and Joshua. Earlier this year, they celebrated 49 years of marriage. Together, they enjoyed many cruises, and have fond memories with their family in the Caribbean, Disneyland, Las Vegas, and the Oregon coast. One of his memorable adventures was ziplining in Panama during one of their cruises.  Dennis enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, motorcycle riding, watching OSU teams and the Trailblazers. He was very skilled at woodworking. One of his favorite pastimes was reading or watching anything about World War II.  Dennis was a proud father and, above all else, he loved spending time with his family. He could always be counted on attending and never missed his boys’ sporting activities no matter when or where they were held. Dennis was also a special grandfather. He attended many of his grandchildren’s activities as his health permitted.  Dennis will be missed by his wife, Marilyn; his sons, Jeremy (Christy) and Joshua (Katie); his four grandchildren: Kiley, Jonah, Aubrie, and Camden; his three brothers: Vern, Dave, and Mark; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  In lieu of holding a memorial service for Dennis, the family will have a celebration of life next spring, near his 79th birthday.  In light of the national blood shortage due to the COVID pandemic, the family requests that you consider donating blood in his honor. Go to redcrossblood.org to schedule an appointment.
