Dennis Albert Schultz was born on April 28, 1944, in Salem Oregon, to Albert & Irene (Hamilton) Schultz. Dad was the second child to this little family as he had a sister Beverly that was excited to have a brother. When dad was still a baby (18 months old), the marriage had dissolved, and our Grandpa Albert Schultz took custody of Dad. About a year later, his Dad remarried our Grandma Millie (Mildred Goodin) and that union brought dad three more siblings, Leroy, Pamela, and Douglas. All four children grew up together and flourished on the 110-acre family farm about 9 miles outside of Dallas Oregon, just off of Kings Valley Highway. Dad learned at a young age that life on the farm meant there were plenty of chores to do. This is where his work ethic began.

Dad went to Antioch School which was a one room schoolhouse for 1st through 8th grade. He went on to Dallas High School where he was very involved with FFA and won many awards. While in high school he also enjoyed the sport of wrestling. He graduated in 1963.

Dad worked many jobs in his younger years. He purchased a black ’67 Mustang Fastback and he often spoke about it with a twinkle in his eye.

Dad married our mom, Janet Androes (Luton). On January 5th, 1970. Together they raised the two of us (Michael & James). He worked at a service station as a mechanic, then worked for the city of Salem on the road department crew. Our Dad and Mom divorced in December of 1982.

Dad lived by himself until he met Kathaleen Thompson (Hilkey), They married on June 2nd, 1984. Together they lived mostly in the Brooks, Oregon area. It was during this time (1989) that dad was finally able to locate his sister Beverly whom he hadn’t seen in 45 years. They continued to remain in contact ever since they reunited. Dad and Kathy parted ways on April 18th, 1992.

Dad moved to Creswell, Oregon and lived with his cousin Donna, and her husband Bob while he work at truck and travel for two years. He then moved to Washington working for a building contractor. He eventually moved to Montana and lived with his cousin Cheryl, and her husband Dan. Dad got a job working at a portable sawmill.

We (Mike and Jim) moved him back to Oregon in February 1996 where he lived with Mike and Valerie for a year until he got his own place that he called home for the next 27 years. Dad went back to work at the Truck and Travel in Coburg for the next 15 years, until he retired at the age of 62.

He enjoyed seeing his grandchildren grow up into adults. Dad had very few friends but the few that he did have were friends for life. He enjoyed hunting trips to the Blue Mountains with his good friend Larry Shields. He enjoyed fishing either by boat (Depot Bay was his favorite) or on land. Dad enjoyed doing yard work. He enjoyed fixing things that were broken. He was a “handyman.” Dad loved to make children laugh. He was always down for a good laugh for he himself loved to tell jokes. He loved country music. He was a cowboy at heart.

Dad, passed away peacefully at Evergreen Hospice Care in Albany, Oregon on the 17th of December 2022, with his family by his side.
