Dean Matten Lauderback, age 100, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2020 in Stayton .Dean was born on November 23, 1919 in Salem, OR to James Gillespie and Lena Maude (Matten) Lauderback. He was raised in the Salem area, and he graduated from Salem High School. Following graduation, he attended OSU. Dean enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in 1942 and served in England, Germany and France during WWII. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1945. On June 27, 1948 Dean married Ardis Alene Gilbert. They had three children, Kenneth, Kathleen and Teresa. The family lived in the Salem area, and Dean worked for Mayflower Farms. Dean drove a milk tanker truck and picked up milk from Dairies all over Western Oregon to deliver to Mayflower for processing. In later years he was the mechanic for Mayflower Farms. He farmed his parents farm, after his “day” job, raising grain crops, chickens and cows. He also worked as a volunteer fireman for Marion County District 1, where he served as the President for a period and was awarded “Fireman of the Year.” Dean was a member of the Masonic Low Twelve club in Salem, Oregon. In 1970, he moved to Nyssa. In Nyssa, he established Deans Disposal (which was a refuse service). He also worked at American Fine Foods Cannery as a mechanic and drove truck for Peterson Farms. Ardis passed away in 2015 and in 2017, Dean moved back to the Salem area. Dean was a hard worker, well liked and a true gentleman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and farming. He will be greatly missed! Dean was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ardis. He is survived by his children, Ken Lauderback, Kathleen Renner, and Teresa Foreman; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Dean and Ardis will be laid to rest at Hilltop Cemetery in Nyssa, Oregon. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
