David “Dave” H. Drews

David “Dave” H. Drews June 14, 1932 – Nov. 5, 2010 Aumsville, Oregon Resident Dave Drews, 78, of Aumsville, passed away on Friday, Nov. 5th at his home in Aumsville. He was just re-elected as the City Councilman for the City of Aumsville. Dave was born June 14, 1932 at Oak Park, Illinois.  He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict.  He was married to Barbara Zook on May 20, 1955 at Lincoln, Nebraska.  He attended Northwestern  college and graduated with a Bachelors degree in engineering from the University of Nebraska.  He worked in Chicago as an engineer for Chicago Rawhide before moving to California where he worked for Rocketdyne as an engineer who tested booster engines for the space program.  He was then transferred to Reno, Nevada  where he worked on the Apollo rocket engines before they were shut down in 1971.  He then moved to Aumsville.   He worked as an engineer then becoming a maintenance manager for Wah Chang before he retired in 1998.   He managed the Santiam Water District until 1978.  He also was the city representative of 911 governing board, he also served on the Special Transportation Board for the City of Salem, the Special Transportation Fund Advisory Committee, the Santiam Regional Advisory Council, and volunteered for the Aumsville Fire Dept. and was an E.M.T.    He was a very active member of the Stayton Christian Church and served as the Church’s sound technician.  Barbara preceded him in death on April 25th of this year. Dave enjoyed ceramics and was the Oregon Ceramic Association President, he enjoyed model railroads, gardening and spending time with his grand and great grandchildren. He is survived by his son, Tom (Dawn) Drews of Aumsville; daughter, Koreen (Victor) Griffith of Aumsville; 6 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren; sister, Joann Evans of Wonderlake, Illinois. He was also preceded in death by his son, Gregory and sister, Phyllis Reese. Memorial service will be held Sat. Nov. 13th at 2:00 pm at the Stayton Christian Church, Stayton, Oregon. Interment will be private. Donations may be made to the City of Aumsville Sign Fund or the Stayton Christian Church. Arrangements entrusted to Weddle Funeral Services.
