Born on November 16 th , 1949 in Winner South Dakota. As a teenager he would move to Mehama, Oregon and he would go on to graduate from Stayton High School with the class of 1967.
While in high school he became a local star and baseball and even more so in basketball, which he is very well known for still today as he still holds records at Stayton for most rebounds in one single game, most points in a season, and a few others. He twice earned All-American and was nominated for Oregon Athlete of the Year in the same year that Steve Prefontaine won.
There is an uncountable list of sports records and memories that he will forever be a part of. Today he is nothing short of a legend of that era for many people.
Daryl went on to play basketball for Warner Pacific College in Portland Oregon where he continued to set the bar very high for basketball. After college he would go on to work for Standard Insurance for many years before transferring over to the lumber industry where he retired from in 2010. He also coached little League baseball at the old Roberts field in Mehama for many years when he was in his 30s and 40s.
Daryl was also a singer and loved to entertain people, playing his music at local parties or just for something to do at the local bar with friends and with family. He also had a hand in the upcoming of the wounded warrior’s foundation, due to raising awareness by holding a benefit concert and working with the Oregon National Guard to help raise money for a local service member who was wounded while at war and son to a dear friend. Daryl loved the outdoors, camping, hunting, and fishing with friends and family and passing along his knowledge and understanding of nature and hunting to his children.
Family was very important to Daryl, taking care of both his mother and father and helping them as their time in this life came to pass. Daryl made sure to be involved in his children's, and his grandchildren's lives and activities as much as he could. He was generous to those he cared about and was a friend to everyone. At 6 ft. 6 in tall he was a big man with an even bigger heart.
On June 5th 2022 Daryl passed away in Mehama Oregon at his home. He was preceded in passing by his parents John and Bayonne, and sister Judy. Daryl is survived by his children, Thomas Stroschine, Jonathan Stroschine, and William Summit V. His grandchildren are: Audrah Claire, Rainah Gene, Avahlyn Elizabeth, Evangeline Bayonne, Cierra, Freedom, William IV, Waylon, Merrick Daryl, and Alia Gene.
A celebration for Daryl will take place on June 17th at 5:00 p.m. at the church in Mehama Oregon.
