Darla Lee Satterfield

Darla Lee Satterfield entered this world August 10, 1963, in Fresno, California, to Ronald Lee and Dorothy Francis (Mosby) Bowser. When she was about 5 years old, Darla’s parents separated, and Dorothy took Darla and moved to Oklahoma where Darla spent the remainder of her childhood. At the tender age of 15, Darla met a truck driver in the area from Oregon, Melburn “Ricky” Satterfield, and fell head over heels. Ricky didn’t know what hit him, but Darla knew what she wanted even if she had to fib a little about her age. Within a year the two were married on February 14, 1979, and Ricky whisked Darla away to Oregon and they would raise three daughters together. In the short time that Darla graced this earth, she made an indelible mark on her family and those she loved and will be profoundly missed by those she leaves behind including her husband of 41 years, Melburn “Ricky” Satterfield; mother Dorothy Boland; brother James Sult; brothers and sisters Jamie and Samantha Bruce of Scio, Shelly Satterfield of Salem, and Rusty and Debbie Satterfield of Lyons; daughters Dorthy (Kori Mabe) Boland, Amanda (Bob) Uhall; and Jennifer (Todd) Ditchen; and grandchildren Darran Robinette, Alexis and Jason Ditchen, Raylan and Denver Satterfield, Alex and Gabriel Uhall; and Cameron Mabe; and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family will hold a celebration of Darla’s life at the family home this summer. When Darla was just 16, Ricky taught her how to drive a big rig and from then on, she would work right along-side him no matter what he was doing. Among other things, she helped him drive truck and build houses from the ground up. When Rick joined the military in 1982, Darla was right there supporting him every step of the way. During his 21 years in service to his country, Rick was stationed in Japan, Nevada, South Carolina, and South Dakota before settling for good back in Oregon in 2002. They were always together and she was Ricky’s biggest fan and loved him fiercely. Raising their girls was such a joy for Darla and she loved her family more than anything else in the world. When her grandchildren came along, she was totally smitten and adored each one of them.Darla will be remembered as a beautiful soul who loved life and chose joy every day regardless of circumstances. Everyone that met her immediately liked her and she cared deeply about those she met in this life. She cultivated a passion for gardening as she was lovingly taught by her husband’s grandfather. Darla was never afraid to speak her mind, but always in love. Over the years Darla worked as a waitress, a skill she learned from her mother. She was not just a waitress, she was a world class banquet waitress working for swanky places like Hiltons and Raddisons. No one else could hold a candle to her when it came to serving people.   For the last seven years, Darla was plagued by health issues, but never complained, cried, or let on that she was not feeling well. The immense amount of pain and suffering that she endured in order to remain with her family as long as she did was testament to the depth of love she had for her family. Darla was a godly woman and emulated Jesus’s love to those around her. Surrounded by family, on June 6, 2020, Darla went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She is now free from the schemes of the devil and physical pain of this life and is resting at peace in the arms of Jesus. The family will hold a celebration of Darla’s life at the family home this summer.
