Claudine Layman, born June 30, 1935, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2024, in Sweet Home, Oregon. She was 88 years old.


Claudine was the beloved daughter of Ida Floy Fry and Joshua Clements Nixon. She grew up with a passion for learning and community service, which she carried throughout her life. After attending college and Oregon State University (OSU), Claudine embarked on a fulfilling career with Greater Albany Public Schools, where she dedicated many years as a transportation manager, ensuring the safety and well-being of countless students.


Claudine married the love of her life, Franklin Layman, with whom she shared many wonderful years until his passing. Together, they raised three children: Andrew Layman, Richard Layman, and Lisa Layman, all of whom brought great pride and joy to her life. Claudine was also a devoted grandmother to her seven grandchildren, who were her greatest treasures.

In addition to her professional achievements, Claudine was deeply committed to her community. She served as the president of the American Legion Auxiliary, where her leadership and compassion touched many lives. Her dedication to service was a testament to her generous spirit and love for her country.


Claudine found joy in the beauty of nature, often capturing its essence through her landscape paintings, a hobby that brought her much peace and satisfaction. Her artistic talents were a reflection of her vibrant and creative soul.


Claudine resided in La Pine, Oregon, where she enjoyed the tranquility and close-knit community. She will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, and the love she shared with her family and friends.


Claudine is preceded in death by her son, Richard Layman and her husband, Franklin “Pat” Layman. She is survived by her two children, Andrew Layman, Lisa Layman, and her seven grandchildren.
