Charles Edward Jones was born February 3, 1947, in Hines, West Virginia. He spent his childhood in the beautiful small mountain community until he was drafted into the Army to serve during the Vietnam War. Once his two-year obligation was completed, Charles immediately re-enlisted for another tour. When he was honorably discharged from service, he returned to the States and worked in Kentucky and Chicago for a time before settling permanently in Oregon. On a trip back to West Virginia to visit family, Charles met Helen Marie Jones. The two fell in love and returned to Oregon to live and were married in Reno, Nevada in 1977. Charles was a wonderful stepdad to Helen’s children, and they had one child together creating a beautiful and happy blended family. Over the years Charles worked on farms, most recently Sandau Farms before his retirement. For the last 27 years they made their home in the small close-knit canyon community of Idanha, Oregon. Charles loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed listening to music. He could fix just about anything and was always tinkering with something. But more than anything, Charles adored his family, especially the children. He was known as the baby whisperer, and he doted on and spoiled all his grandkids. Whether it was attending sporting and school events like grandparents’ day, picking “sick” kids up from school, sending balloons and flowers for Valentine’s Day, or just hanging out at the house, Charles always made his grandkids feel incredibly loved and special each in their own way. Even grandkids that weren’t technically his called him grandpa and he enjoyed time with them too, and he even had special nicknames for them all. He wouldn’t like to be told this, but he was a bit of a pushover when it came to those grandkids he loved so much. On September 12, 2021, Charles passed away suddenly in his beloved community of Idanha. A special acknowledgement to Vicki Kosack for her kindness through grandpa's last days. Charles was kind and friendly and loved to chat with anyone and everyone and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Helen Marie; daughter Margaret; grandson Jason; and his sister Lolitia whom he called Sweet Pea. Charles is survived by his children Donald (Carol), Wayne (AJ), and Charlene; grandchildren Kaci, Amber, Dakota, Shardell, Joey, Rashell, and Haley; great-grandchildren Ashlynn, Adaleah, Brendon, Natasha, Jeremy, Natalie, Hudson, Teagan, and Karson; and great-great-grandchildren Kash, Noah, Jupiter, and Freya; siblings Lawrence, Glori-Ann, Darrelee, and Kitty-Sue.
