Carl Brown(1927 2012) Carl W. Brown May 31, 1927 June 16, 2012 Sublimity, Oregon Carl Ward Brown, 85, of Sublimity, died Saturday, June 16. Carl was born to Owen and Ethel Brown in La Veta Colorado, May 31, 1927. He graduated from La Veta High School in 1945, served in the US Navy during and after World War II, received his bachelors degree from Colorado State University in 1950, and his masters degree in biology from Oregon State University in 1960. He was a dedicated high school teacher and coach, influencing the lives of countless young people throughout his career, and retiring from Corvallis High School. He was an avid gardener with prized roses and dahlias. A Dodger fan since Brooklyn, he continued to follow collegiate sports. Carl was passionate about ecology and was involved in many local projects to protect the environment. He was a voracious reader and lifelong learner who worked tirelessly at personal growth to the very end of his life. He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, friend, and citizen, who will be missed by all who knew him. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jean Duzenack, of La Veta, Colorado. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Shirley L. Brown; his sister, Barbara Bridges, of La Veta, Colorado; and his three children: David Brown (Rocky), of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; Susan Stanfield (Tom), of Seattle, Washington; and Dennis Brown, of Eugene. He is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. An informal service for family and friends will be held at the Marian Estates Chapel in Sublimity, Saturday, June 23, at 1:00 PM. A reception will follow at Maurices Bistro. A separate service will be held in La Veta, Colorado, at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Oregon Wild.
