Bobby Dean Johnson, Known to family and friends as Bob, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2023, In Salem, Oregon. Born October 12, 1946, in Leon, Iowa. In the end, Bob was able to show he was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend to many. His new friends called him, Sweet Bobby.
Bob is survived by his children, (Pam Schaecher’s) Chris Johnson, Jennifer Byrne, (Nancy Cartee’s) Kristine Sykes, and Stacey Hardenbrook; his grandchildren (Pam’s) Kaitlynn, Devon,Emma,Sarah,Tessa, (Nancy’s), Kayla, Brian, Corbin, Jesse, Jovie; his siblings Donna, Mona, Connie; and nine cherished great-grandchildren. Bob’s family was always his pride and joy, even when he couldn’t show it. He would offer a help hand to anyone in need, when he could.
Bob was a member of the Church of Latter-day Saints. During Covid, it was hard to get to church, but members would stop by now and then. In his final days, he was blessed to have several members visit and bless him.
A proud graduate of Albany Union High School in 1964. Bob went on to earn a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Chemeketa Community College. His education laid the foundation for a successful and diverse career. Bob was a home builder, house painter, and real estate broker. Owning a successful real estate and construction business for decades. He was known for his strong work ethic, attention to details, and commitment to customer satisfaction.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1967 and the Navy Reserve from 1966 to 1967. Stationed on the USS Greenlet ASR-10 sub rescue ship, his home base was in San Diego. His time in the military installed in him a strong sense of duty, and discipline, which carried with him throughout his life.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bob was an active member of the Salem Board of Realtors and the Salem Home Builders Association. His involvement in these organizations demonstrated his dedication to his community and his passion for helping others achieve their dreams of homeownership.
Bob had a deep love for animals and the outdoors. He raised horses, cows, chicken, a confused turkey, and one mean donkey, creating a welcoming home for both his family and his beloved animals. In the last few years, he loved to sit on the river bank and fish. An avid landscape painter, Bob found solace and inspiration in the beauty of nature and took great pride in sharing his artistic talents with others.
Karaoke was another of Bob and Nancy’s favorite pastimes, and he was often the life of the party, telling bad jokes and singing his heart out and encouraging others to join in the fun. His warm, outgoing personality and genuine love for life made him a cherished friend to many.
Throughout his life, Bob was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Whether it was offering advice, sharing his knowledge and expertise, or simply providing a listening ear, he made a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals.
Bob leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and dedication to his family, friends, and community. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us in our own journeys.
In celebration of Bob’s life, we remember not only his accomplishments but also, the laughter, love, and joy he brought to those around him. As we honor his memory , let us strive to embody the values and passions that defined his life: love of family, dedication to service, and a commitment to helping others.
