Betty Lois Ely passed away peacefully on June 20, 2020 in Sublimity, Oregon at the age of 92. She was born in Pedee, Oregon on October 7, 1927. Betty grew up in Salem, Oregon and married James Hagan. She later married Lee Ely and they moved to Cardiff, California where they raised 3 children. She was a wonderful housewife and mother. Betty received her real estate and cosmetology licenses in California and spent a few years doing facials at LaCosta in Carlsbad,. Upon retirement the Elys lived in Bullhead City, Arizona and enjoyed boating at Lake Powell. She lived in Detroit, Oregon and together with Lee spent many enjoyable years boating throughout the San Juans and British Columbia, Canada. Betty continued living in Detroit for nearly 40 years. Betty traveled extensively throughout the US and worldwide. She enjoyed trips to Australia and New Zealand, part of Southeast Asia as well as Europe. Betty was a proficient knitter and taught herself, as well as others how to knit. Her creations live on through her children and grandchildren. Betty was also a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star. Betty is survived by her children Betty Jo Ely and J. R. Hagan as well as her grandchildren; Ginger White, Chad White, Rosemary Holliday, Aiyana Currie, Jessie Hagan, Jim Hagan, Cody Hagan, Shepherd Hagan, Jennifer Hagan, Patrick Hagan, and Joshua Hagan, and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lee Ely, her daughter Laura Lee White, her older sister Lucille Koch and her great grandson Jordan White. Private burial was at Fairview Cemetery in Gates, Oregon. A Memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial Contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans.
