Betty Jean Patterson

December 26, 1928 — April 29, 2022

Betty Jean Patterson was on December 26, 1928, in Pine Valley, Oklahoma to Tom and Ruby Mae (Morrow) Quinton.

She married James Buck Shipman on February 19, 1946 in Arkansas. They soon moved to Sonora, California where their daughter Wanda was born in 1947. They would then move to Lebanon, Oregon where Jim started work at the new Cascade Plywood Mill. They would give birth to three more children. James William in 1948, Ronald Lee in 1955 and Brenda Fay in 1961.

Betty was a mother and housewife for a few years before going to work as a waitress at the local café. She met and befriended most of the Lebanon police officers that came in. Many of those officers would come by her house for coffee even after she stopped working at the café. Some of those officers were her close friends until she died.

She also worked at a little grocery store and made many friends. She would also babysit for friends’ children to help out.

She lost both her sons in 1977 and her first husband, James in 1984.

Betty had a deep faith in God. She loved her church friends and attended church regularly. She loved to volunteer at their church, She was a very social person and always made a point to stay in touch with the important people in her life.

She met Cecil Patterson at her church, and they were married in 1999 but he would later pass in 2011. Betty became very close friends with Cecil’s sister Doris, who spent much time with Betty after Cecil’s passing.

On April 29, 2022, Betty passed away in Corvallis, Oregon. She was preceded in passing by her husband’s James Buck Shipman and Cecil Patterson; and Sons, James William Shipman, and Ronald lee Shipman; parents, Ruby and Tom Quinton; and brothers, Donald Quinton, and TJ Quinton. She is survived by children, Wanda Taylor, and Brenda Smith; grandchildren, Jaime Hamner, Shan Hamner, Brian Taylor, Kristen Taylor, Ben Ulep, Jill Ulep Great Grandchildren Ashley Hamner, Shawn Hamner, Danielle Hamner, Nicole Hamner, Gabriel Ulep, Kristian Ulep, Quinton Bowlin; and siblings, Dorothy Stevens, Wilma Simpson, Paul Quinton, Paulette Rosas, Bill Quinton.

Towards the end of her life, a friend Helen Wheeler spent many days and nights helping care for her. She was a blessing.

A memorial service will be held on May 20 th 2022 at 1 PM at Ignite Hope formally known as Free Methodist Church at 580 F St. Lebanon, Oregon 97355 .
