Betty Jean was born December 3, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York to Carl Clarence Eugene and Gladys Leona (Deeds) Mellberg. She grew up in a military household and spent most of her childhood in the Newark, New Jersey, area until the family moved to Oregon her senior year of high school. The moment Betty graduated from Pendleton high school, the family left for Ohio where Betty took courses at Ohio Wesleyan University. One evening while roller skating, Betty met Arthur William Reagan and the couple married just a few months later. The couple made their home in Dayton, Ohio while Arthur was still serving in the military overseas. Betty and Arthur moved to Arizona for a time then back to the New York area where Arthur attended Columbia University. Arthur took a job at IBM and they moved him out to San Jose, California where they would live for many years while raising a family. Although Betty did not have a paying job outside of the home while raising their children, she was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her family. She also worked as a full-time volunteer. She trained instructors for CPR/First Aid and was involved in disaster drills, recreating realistic wounds on drill participants. Volunteering was important to Betty and she frequently involved her entire family. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and she and Art were both active in Masonic activities. During their time in California, Betty and Arthur loved to go to Disneyland with their family whenever they could. They loved traveling together whether it was on a cruise vacation or road trips in their RV. Eventually they would relocate to Texas to be near their daughter, happily helping out with the care of the grandchildren while their daughter worked. Betty and Arthur would even volunteer at their grandchildren's schools. The couple shared a happy and loving life. They were together for almost 50 years before Arthur's death in 1992. A few years after Arthur's death, Betty met and married George McCall and the couple relocated back to the California. After several years, Betty visited her daughter Jean in Oregon and the family realized that she would need more care than they previously knew, so Betty relocated to Corvallis, Oregon with her daughter. Betty was widowed once again when George passed away in California. She remained in the Corvallis area until her death on December 14, 2019, at the age of 94. Betty was a hoot as her caregivers would say. She lived life with joy and was always cracking jokes. She will dearly missed by those she leaves behind including her daughters Serena Reagan, Roseanne Herzog, and Jean Waters; son Terry Reagan; honorary daughter Maria Curton; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Betty was preceded in death by her husbands Arthur and George. She will be laid to rest with Arthur at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. No services are planned at this time.
