After 93 plus years on this earth Alice passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born in Johnstown, PA., she was the fourth of nine siblings born to Ken and Emma Varner. After the Varner family moved to Pittsburgh, PA., Alice met Albert Burgess at a county fair, they fell in love and married in November of 1946.  Moving to Astoria, OR, they had four children. Tom Burgess (wife Rachel) of Carlton, OR, Emma K. Smith (deceased), Sharon Dolbin of Keizer, OR,. and Teresa Jeter (husband Ron) of Salem, OR. Extended family members include- seven grandchildren, 10 greatgrandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Moving to Astoria, OR to California and back to Bonneville, Dam, OR., then to Hood River, OR and finally the Dalles, OR., Alice enjoyed working inthe school cafeterias, restaurants and finally the Census Bureau. Al and Alice retired in 1982 moving to Canby, OR. Al died November 1987. Alice moved to Salem where she met and then married Duane Sears in 1995. Duane passed away in 2002. A very active member of Queen of Peace Church, NARFE, Happy 39ers, and Meals on Wheels, Alice found time to go fishing (her passion), playing pinochle, reading, traveling and crocheting.  MAY YOU REST IN PEACE ALICE- we love you and will miss you dearly! Contributions can be made to St. Francis Homeless shelter.
