Alfred Bennett Davenport Sr., born on November 13, 1934, in Bristow, Oklahoma, to Edna Pauline (Massey Davenport) Gregory and Andrew Jackson Davenport, passed away on August 2, 2024. His family moved from Oklahoma to California and eventually settled in Sweet Home, Oregon, where Alfred graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1953.


In August 1957, Alfred was drafted and deployed to Germany as a Specialist 4th Class. During his deployment his wife Patsy was able to join him while in Germany. He would be serving his country for nearly two years. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his exemplary service. After his military service, Alfred dedicated his life to logging, working until the age of 70, and concluding his career with McCollum Logging in Sweet Home.


Alfred was married to Patsy Joe (Holder) Davenport on June 2, 1957 in Sweet Home, Oregon. They were together for 64 wonderful years until her passing. Together, they raised three sons: Alfred Davenport Jr. (Barb), Aaron Todd Davenport (Teri), and Andrew Wade Davenport. Alfred is survived by his sons and his cherished grandchildren: Andrea (Davenport) Yoder, Emily Davenport, Justin Casciano, Kalib Karns and Jessica Davenport; great grandchildren, McKenzie and Alexis Yoder. He is also survived by his siblings: LouVee Walker, Harold Davenport, and Janet (Gregory) Warren, and many great-grandchildren, grandchildren, cousins, nephews, and nieces.


Alfred had a passion for fishing, hunting, baseball, and coaching. He was also an avid collector of coins and other treasures he found at yard sales. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Earl Gregory, his older brother Floyd Davenport Sr., and his beloved wife Patsy.


Alfred will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his love for the outdoors, and his unwavering spirit. A Celebration of Life for Alfred and Patsy will be held on September 29, 2024, from 2 to 4 PM at his sister LouVee’s home. Refreshments will be provided.
