William "Bill" Rodney Friday

William "Bill" Rodney Friday, fondly known to many as Uncle Bill, passed away in Bend, Oregon, in 2024 at the age of 81. Born on November 8, 1942, in Payette, Idaho, Bill was the beloved son of Harriet Perrigo and Charles "Chuck" Friday. He grew up alongside his two older brothers, Harlow C. Friday and Peter J. Friday, who preceded him in death.

Bill spent the formative years of his life in Eugene, Oregon, where he resided from 1960 until 1996. After a brief service in the Oregon Army National Guard, Bill was honorably discharged due to a service injury. Undeterred by this setback, Bill pursued his passion for the arts, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Oregon. His love for creativity and nature led him to Bend, Oregon, where he lived from 1996 until his passing.

Bill was a man of many talents. For over 45 years, he worked as a fire lookout, diligently protecting the forests he cherished. His love for the outdoors, particularly the high desert and the Cascade Mountains of Oregon, was evident in everything he did. During the off-season, Bill served his community as a security guard, tennis coach, and art teacher, sharing his skills and wisdom with countless students and colleagues.

As a renowned cartoonist, artist, and author, Bill's creative works were celebrated throughout central Oregon. His art was showcased in galleries and museums, earning him several awards and accolades for his contributions to both the arts and sports. In 2008, Bill was featured in an episode of OPB's *Oregon Field Guide*, highlighting his remarkable career as a fire lookout.

A master storyteller, Bill found joy in sharing his experiences and stories with others. He was a lover of many sports, especially tennis, and was known for his compassion, particularly towards stray animals. Bill's home was always open to cats, raccoons, and other critters in need of care.

Bill's life was enriched by his loving partnership with Franz. Together they were able to celebrate their love for art, literature, the outdoors, and their numerous stray kitties.

Though Uncle Bill did not have children of his own, he was a beloved mentor and father figure to his nieces and nephews. He imparted invaluable lessons on how to live a life full of meaning, creativity, and love. His wisdom and guidance will continue to influence those who knew him. He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Laura Lewis, Chris Friday, Lisa Adams, Jim Friday, and Jessica Sollini, as well as 12 grand-nieces and nephews, and 17 great-grand-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and brothers, Bill was preceded in death by numerous loved ones. His memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
