Stephen Thomas Coombs was born December 20, 1950, in Covina, California, to Thomas A. and Jean Arlene (Browne) Coombs. After graduating El Medina High School, Stephen enlisted in the Air Force and served in Viet Nam. Upon his return stateside, he married a high school classmate, Pamela Nadine Ward, on February 19, 1972, in Orange, California. Stephen attended Chaparral Career College in Tucson, Arizona, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting. They lived in Arizona for 15 years and then spent time in Biloxi, Mississippi, and Kodiak, Alaska, before settling in Dallas, Oregon. Family was everything to Stephen and he adored his wife and two daughters and loved being a grandpa. He was a man of faith and served in his church as assistant pastor. Stephen also enjoyed playing golf, bowling, and fishing. Stephen’s health began to fail and when he needed full time care, the wonderful staff at Oregon Veteran’s Home in Lebanon had the honor of caring for him. It was here that Steven passed away on May 12, 2021, at the age of 70, surrounded in love by his wife and daughters. Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, brother Cliff Lee; and his grandson Mychail. He will be deeply missed by the beloved family he leaves behind including his wife of 49 years, Pamela; daughters Carol (Roger) and Tammie (Steven) Ashley Wermes; grandchildren Kayla Wharton, Karlee Miller, Savannah Miller and; great-grandchild Anakin; and siblings Cheryl Stewart and Dorothy Olson.
