Ruby was born August 24, 1922, in Siren, Wisconsin to Jesse O. and Lillian E.O. (Porter) Hill. When she was young the family made the trek out west and settled in California. Ruby met and married Darcy E. Drennan and they made their first home in the Los Angeles area as Darcy worked for Lockheed Martin at Vandenberg Air Force Base during WWII. The couple had one child together, a daughter, Kerry, who was born in Hollywood, California. The family made their way to Oregon where they settled in the Silverton area before moving to Salem where they remained for the rest of their lives. After they moved to Oregon, Ruby went to work for Oregon Fairview Home in Salem where she was a medical transcriptionist and eventually became the head of the Administrative Staff. She loved her work and both she and Darcy were very career oriented. When they were not working, the couple enjoyed golfing together and traveling when they could. Ruby also spent time bowling on a team for the Cherry City Bowling League. Ruby and Darcy were happily married for more than four decades until his death in 1986. Ruby met a neighbor, Glenn Zetterberg and the two became very fond of one another and were married shortly after. Glenn and Ruby loved to spend their Saturday evenings dancing in the living room as they watched Lawrence Welk. The couple enjoyed travelling and had many adventures together including visits to Australia and Hawaii. They were married for 23 years when Glenn passed away in 2010. Ruby’s love of her career and example of the success and stability that brought her, made a positive impression on her granddaughter, Marcy. With Ruby and Darcy’s love and support, Marcy earned a business degree and landed a job for the State of Oregon. Marcy had a daughter, Kaitlin, and Ruby was ecstatic to learn that Kaitlin’s middle name was Elizabeth after both Ruby and Ruby’s mom. Whenever Ruby asked about Kaitlin, she always made a point to say her middle name too with a smile. Ruby was very spunky and stubborn. When her granddaughter would take her out anywhere, people would always comment about “how cute” Ruby was. She was also known for her extreme love of every kind of cookie. Ruby passed away peacefully March 31, 2019, with her granddaughter Marcy by her side. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darcy, her daughter Kerry, her husband Glenn, and her brothers Donald and Clifford. She is survived by her granddaughter Marcy (Ray) Murdock, her great-granddaughter Kaitlin (Derek) Peterson, and her step-children Pamela Langnese, Susan Tipton, and Craig Zetterberg. There will be a potluck following the graveside service at 1024 Sharon Loop South in Salem.
