Naydene Lee Flatman was born on March 9,1942 in Salem, Oregon to Albert Leigh and Mildred Margaret (Berry) Carr. She had two siblings, Gloria (Carr) Schiewek and Kathryn (Carr) Syverson. Naydene graduated from Stayton Union High School Class of 1960. She grew up in Lyons, Oregon and then after graduation moved to Mill City. On January 29, 1964 Naydene Lee Carr married Donald Charles Flatman in Stevenson, Washington. The following year the two moved with their son Dennis to Southeast Alaska where they lived for 11 years. While there, Naydene gave birth to a daughter, Melinda, before moving back to Mill City. Don and Naydene had three children Dennis, Duane, and Melinda; stepdaughter Donelda Anderson visited often from Portland. To say family was important to her would be an understatement because her family was her life. In addition to her own children many of the Mill City "kids" called Naydene mom to the day she passed. She enjoyed spending time with her children, her 6 grandchildren: Kori Rush, Anthony Anderson, Valerie Flatman, Jennifer Jennings, McKenzie Flatman, and Karissa Flatman, her 8 great-grandchildren: Kenton, Merek, Darbi, Damian, Kaydence, Dayton, Lucas, and Justin, and her 9 nieces and nephews: Susan Schiewek, Judy Schiewek, PattiJo Schiewek, Donna Baumann, Terri Bigness, Thomas Schiewek, James Schiewek, Randy Syverson and Ryan Syverson. Naydene was a homemaker and lifelong caregiver to her daughter. She was a Statesman Journal delivery person and provided care for the elderly. Naydene enjoyed cats, fishing, camping, and cooking. She was a member of the Women of the Moose organization for both Alaska and Oregon. On February 12, 2021 Naydene Lee Flatman passed away at home with her family. She was preceded in death by Duane Flatman, Albert Carr, Mildred Carr, Susan Schiewek, Tony Anderson, Gloria Schiewek, Kay Syverson, and Donelda Anderson. Naydene was a mother, wife, grandmother, friend, and compassionate warrior. She enriched the lives of those around her and she will be missed deeply by those who knew her. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Ark Animal Care for families with financial need or the Mill City Volunteer Fire Department.
