Janis “Jan” Lee Tebow Bowman was born June 9, 1950, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Frank “Ace” Jewel and Betty Rebecca (Bristow) Schoening Jr. She grew up in Missouri, graduated high school in 1968, and immediately started a family. Jan had two daughters and when they were young, she relocated to Oregon in 1977. Early on, Jan worked various jobs before landing a position with Intel working at their computer help desk. She went on to earn an associate degree in finance. By the time she retired from Intel she was working as a supervisor. Jan was always physically active and enjoyed many sports and activities. When she was younger, she loved softball and even as an adult was on multiple women’s leagues and co-ed teams, and even went to state and national tournaments multiple teams. She also loved bowling and was on several leagues, and while living in McMinnville played community volleyball. Jan always attended her girls’ games and often coached their teams. In time, she gave up softball and volleyball but continued bowling. Another passion of hers was being outdoors and whenever she had free time she went fishing, camping, and boating. Jan loved the beach and the mountains, but she hated the snow. With her very green thumb, Jan became a master gardener could grow anything well, enjoying her time outside. Jan was a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Abigail Scott Duniway Chapter in Stayton, and was also involved in the Champoeg chapter. She was also a member of the Salem Eagles where she would go dancing, and where she would meet her husband William “Bill” Bowman at one of those dances. Music was a big part of her life and she loved Elvis and country music and had a great time going out dancing and taking line dance lessons. Jan also followed a local band called Never Too Late, taking every opportunity to go see them perform live. Jan will be remembered as simply a wonderful woman, always looking out for others above herself. She was kind and loving and generous to everyone. Jan was a smart-alec with a great sense of humor, always making people laugh. Determined and stubborn, she was quite the fighter, and spent the last several years valiantly battling health issues. On January 10, 2021, Jan passed-away at home surrounded by family.Jan was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Bill; daughters Terri Atkinson and Heather (Craig) Martin; brother Frank Buchholz; grandchildren Samantha, Stephan, Sarah, and Courtney; and great-grandchildren Payton, Phoebe, and Patience. The family will gather privately to celebrate her life.
